The mission of Auto Gear Company in 1945 was to provide drivetrain rebuilders with affordable access to the highest quality Original Equipment replacement parts. That mission has expanded to include designing and manufacturing specialized transmissions and gearboxes. The Auto Gear engineering division has products for off-highway vehicles as diverse as golf course utility vehicles, rough terrain lift trucks, customrace vehicles, muscle cars, and classics.

History and Growth

1945 - Auto Gear Company was founded as an authorized wholesale and retail business to sell original aftermarket drivetrain products at affordable prices. Today however, we specialize in manual transmissions and custom gear boxes.

Irving H. Sollish was our founder and our address was 218 West Washington Street, Syracuse, New York.

1969 - Although Auto Gear Company had added some storage locations, we decided to bring the office and warehouses together. We moved to one large building at our current location, 530 State Fair Boulevard, Syracuse, New Your 13204.

1982 - Auto Gear Company added an engineering division for us to offer technical expertise and product development. Our engineers have developed some creative high performance products for us to manufacture and sell. We refer to the engineering department as AGE and stamp most of our new products with AGE (Auto Gear Engineering).

Robert Sollish, son of Irving, is President of Auto Gear Company, and Robert’s son, George, is Chief Engineer.

2004 - Auto Gear Company expanded again. We purchased a machine company called “Abbott Works” and moved it into our plant. This enabled us to offer precision rework, and low volume custom designed tools and products.

2009 - All our divisions are now merged under Auto Gear Company. We still refer to our machine department as “Abbot Works” and stamp our own products with AGE (Auto Gear Engineering.
Although we had reduced our labor force due to the global financial concerns, careful planning and progress has enabled us to recently hire a technician- Ray Wilson, an office clerk- Nathan Haxtable, and added a new board member, June Haley. We are optimistic about the future.

          My grandfather, Irving H. Sollish, founded Auto Gear in 1945. Then, our mission was to provide drivetrain rebuilders with affordable access to the highest quality Original Equipment replacement parts. Today, we design and manufacture specialized transmissions for off-highway vehicles as diverse as golf course utility vehicles, rough terrain lift trucks and street sweepers, but our commitment to provide outstanding quality and value remain.

          Its hard work, but its not the only thing we do. Our new line of 'Muscle Car' products applies our hard-won knowledge of gears and gearboxes to duplicating and, when possible, improving the manual transmission parts that keep those great cars of our youth running and racing today.
